Every week, millions of people come online for the first time.
Everyone, no matter their location, language or digital literacy deserves an internet that was made for them. Google’s Next Billion Users initiative conducts research and builds products for people around the world.
The internet is evolving, influenced more than ever by those coming online for the first time.
The technology industry and its partners in government, business and society has a unique opportunity to learn and work with these new users on creating products that are both relevant to their needs and usable in their context.
People are at the center of everything we build.
The vast majority of people using the internet for the first time are doing so via a mobile device, not a computer. They often share devices with friends and family, and tend to prefer voice and visuals over typing or reading. By uncovering insights like these through user research, we can build more helpful and inclusive products.
Business Website Builder
Having a strong online presence can truly be a make or break for any business.
In the last few years, there has been an active push for consumers to “shop local” and support small businesses, and that is largely made possible through the internet. Being able to have an online storefront and market to customers outside of your geographic area is a huge opportunity for many entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. For all of these reasons, it is important that every small business have a website.
In today’s digital world, people turn to Google to find practically anything and everything. From answers to questions to products and services near them. Search engines play an important role in the online success of businesses. Without a website, potential customers will be unable to find businesses in their searches.
Google already offers services to add location, phone numbers, contact forms, etc on Google Maps; options to set up a Business account to receive transactions on Google Pay, Ads & Analytics services for tracking website traffic. Thus, with the help of these discovery points, and utilizing information already given - a SMB owner can easily create a website, promote themselves across various Google services like Search, YouTube, Maps, etc with the help of Google Ads; and keep track of sales and engagement on the website via Google Analytics
Currently the Merchant Console does not allow the user to preview their website while editing. Explore UX solutions that can be introduced into the existing framework and make GUI in line with Googles visual language for the same

After multiple explorations and feedback sessions, the outcome of the internship will be implemented in the live Google product in the near future. For the scope of the internship, the design was prototyped along with an SWE Intern
